Restoring Old Cars = Tough Life Lessons
Restoring old cars, customizing cool cars and building a tire scorching hot rod is a passion that provides therapy and teaches you accomplishment through hard work, determination and planning.
Through the years I’ve enjoyed playing with old cars. I’ve also earned some “mattress money” buying, selling, restoring them too. Hustling and wheeling and dealing cars through the years has pulled us out of some rough times. When you have 3 kids and bills to pay you do whatever it takes to put beans on the table.
The challenges associated with restoring an old vehicle can teach you about life and how to get through the hard times. If you want anything in life of value you get out there, figure out what you want it to look like, get dirty, get mad, get even, do what you need to do to get on with it and make something out of nothing.
Restoring classic cars will test your mental and physical to the max. Once you go through the necessary evils to complete the job you gain a new perspective on what it means to “get it done.”
It takes all your might to do the work necessary to completion when you’d rather be in bed or sit in front of the TV living a life of ease.
I’ve restored cars not only for the fun of it but also to survive financially. Most have made me money while some I lost. As in life not everything goes as planned. But you keep turning the wrenches, so to speak, in order to fix what needs the problems.
I learned plenty about life by turning old beat up cars into valuable, driveable, cool looking machines. They won’t fix themselves. Letting it sit there and hoping it will happen doesn’t work. Life works like that.
Restoring an oldie tests your personal power and willingness to finish what you start. It’s good for you.
